This project is a Region Building Project and will be a State-of-the-Art Facility when completed.
The Aquatic Centre concept had comprehensive consultation for many years before this project even commenced and it was one of the most requested pieces of community infrastructure by all of the community, even going back to pre-amalgamation days.
This is a regional facility and will not only enhance our region but provide much needed therapeutic aquatic services that currently don’t exist in our region.
The construction of this facility is well underway and progressing well. It is on time and on budget. Council has been kept informed of all aspects of the project from the very start. We receive, reports, emails, briefing notes and meeting agendas etc etc etc to insure we are up to date and kept informed. Even at a recent Briefing Meeting (19/7/23) when I asked a question regarding the Aquatic Centre, the CEO publicly advised- “The project remains on time and on budget. In fact, elements of the construction are well ahead of the original schedule.” (Steve Johnston CEO BRC.)
In Council, we are given massive amounts of information and anything that we don’t have we can request, and it is always supplied. Councillors can also attend the Audit & Risk Committee meetings which are made up of internal and external (independent) professional experts in their fields, who go through every detail of all Council operations line by line to ensure that it all complies with regulations and legislation, the Aquatic Centre project is discussed at length regularly at these meetings. Council also adopts a Financial Monthly Report that has publicly available information in it at the Ordinary Meeting every month.
As a Councillor all you have to do to know what’s going on is read the information that is supplied, turn up at the meetings and participate in the discussions at Consultation days which are most Mondays and Wednesdays - As the old saying goes “Knowledge isn’t cheap, you have to pay attention.”
Every decision we make as a Council is for the betterment of the region and our communities. The region is booming, and Council is in the best financial shape and position it has ever been in, and I hope we can continue to deliver for our communities for many more years.
