It is always hard to find a balance between land for development for much needed housing and land that should be conserved for environmental purposes/ green space. This decision gets even harder when that land is privately owned and has a current Development Approval in place.

Yesterday Council was advised by the owner/developer of land at Moore Park Road, Moore Park Beach (see image below), that vegetation clearing works will likely commence soon, in accordance with the Council and State Government issued development approval.

The development is for an 84-lot residential subdivision approved by Council in 2017. Council Officers and State Government Officers will be closely monitoring the works to ensure vegetation clearing is undertaken in accordance with relevant standards.

The development approval for this residential estate was granted by the Council in December 2017. Vegetation clearing works have been approved by the relevant State Government Agency in their capacity as a referral agency to the development approval.

I fully understand the anxiety and amount of community interest that this vegetation clearing is likely to raise and want to ensure the community that all works that are to be carried out will be in accordance with the State Vegetation clearing works Legislation.

Any resident enquiries or concerns in relation to the works should directed to ceo@bundaberg.qld.gov.au
