Report for MPB Community Assoc. Meeting 10/06/2023

MPB Community Association Community Meeting 10/6/23

A different format for my usual presentation at the Moore Park Beach Community Association Community Meeting on Saturday was trailed. I was only planning on giving a brief update on Council matters at the meeting as there were going to be 2 other guest speakers, but due to changes in circumstances, neither of the speakers were able to attend, so it was left to me.

My notes below are an indication of what was discussed. The meeting was very well attended and the Q&A session from the floor was well received. I managed to talk for nearly an hour answering question/queries so a lot was said and discussed, however, the Q&A from the floor was not minuted, sorry.

Brief Updates: 1. MPB Master Plan Tender- Re-Tenders opening 27 May: Closes 27th June

  • TEN/1961 – Design and Construct Moore Park Beach Community Buildings We are hoping that Contractors will tender for this much needed Community facility, this time around.

2. Current projects underway MPB-

  • Off Leash Dog Park Lions Park MPB- This project is nearing completion and should be finished and open for use within the next couple of weeks. June 30th is the contract completion date.

  • The MPB Community Hall and Pink House Roof’s have now been replaced and look great.

  • Booyan Rd Roadworks- The contract has been awarded and works will commence as soon as the contractor is available and able to start.

Q&A from the floor: Questions submitted by MPB Community Association prior to the meeting-

(1) Who is the Councillor that has Sports and Recreation attached to their portfolio? Could they give you any information about what the Bundaberg Regional Council intends to run during the next school holidays at Moore Park Beach for the youth within the township and surrounding areas.

Cr Habermann has the Sport & Recreation portfolio. Sport & Rec don’t delivery school holiday programs they just provide advice and support to local sporting groups. The only program they deliver is the current Be Active, Be Alive program which concludes when school holidays start. Our Community Development Team sometimes run programs during school holiday periods but their focus this year is on the Family Flourish Fun Day on 29th June at Boreham Park. Local community or sporting groups may have school holiday events/programs planned in various locations throughout the region.

(2) What is the timeline to the Bundaberg Regional Council to either fix or upgrade the sewerage system at the local Caravan Park?

We have executed a contract for the design and construction of the work and we are currently finalising approval from the Department of Environment and Science. There will be a lengthy lead time associated with the design and procurement stages, so there is some uncertainty around timing of the work on site. My best estimate at this stage is at the end of this year. We will of course have to work around peak demand times as well.

(3) I am aware that the Transport Department isn't in your area, but I would like to know if you have heard anything about the Department of Transport doing any upgrades to the traffic congestion with Bundaberg.

Update and discussion on Bundaberg Integrated Transport Strategy (BITS). Third Bridge. Quay St De-maining. CBD Bypass. Traffic Studies/constantly monitoring doing improvements.

(4) What do you know about the new hospital being built? (a) Will the Maternity Department be moved to the new hospital? (b) Will the ED move over to the new hospital? (c) Will the Fracture Clinic move over to the new hospital or stay where they are now?
