This week’s commonly asked question is:
Q- There seems to be a lot of road works going on in Division 1 at the moment?
That’s because, Bundaberg Regional Council spends approximately $25 million every year on road upgrades, drainage, maintenance and sealing programs across the region. The roads budget various from year to year but it is always around that $20-$30 million dollar spend.
Bundaberg Regional Council is responsible for 3084 kilometres of sealed and unsealed road network with an estimated value of $1.18 billion. In order to best manage periodic maintenance and new or upgrade works across the road network, a good understanding of levels of service, demand and prioritisation is required.
As our community grows and the road network ages, robust investment decisions are required to ensure a safe road network can be provided that also supports growth and community expectation. In order to achieve this, Council has developed a future focused Road Investment Strategy which adopts a proactive approach to servicing growth while making provision for the maintenance and improvement of existing road infrastructure.
And there has been a lot of road works going on in Division 1 lately, with the Mooreland’s Rd widening blackspot project, drainage/culvert repairs to Mooreland’s Rd and the Dorron Crt Turnaround works which have all been completed by BRC, and the “S” bends resealing at MPB and the safety improvements to the corner of Wheelers Rd and Gin Gin Rd by TMR, roadworks seem to be happening wherever you go.
Grading works on unsealed roads has also been carried out on- • Stewarts Road, Moorland • Vecellios Road, Moorland • Bonels Road, Welcome Creek • Lovells Road, Welcome Creek • Murdochs Linking Road, Moore Park Beach • Townsons Road, Welcome Creek
There is a lot more roadwork planned for Division 1 this financial year, and work will soon commence on the Booyan Rd upgrade, which will see stabilising, widening, and sealing of the road to full 2 lane standard for its entire length.
So, watch out for works in your area and always drive safely around roadworks.
