Update on Anzac Park Precinct

Bundaberg Now 10/10/2022

As the transformation of Anzac Park into a vibrant memorial and community space continues with drainage works underway, I share with you a Bundaberg Now Post from October last year, regarding when Council engaged consultants Niche Environment and Heritage to undertake commemorative spaces consultation and design, this process commenced with an initial session in September 2022 with the RSL Sub-Branch.

I attended this session with other Councillors and there were many members of the RSL Sub- Branch in attendance as well. All concerns and matters raised including the reuse of the foundation stone and plagues from the old swimming pool site were discussed and it was agreed that they would be reused and on display in the New Services Memorial when complete.

“RSL Sub-Branch President Graham Crowden said he was looking forward to working with Council and the consultant to provide feedback on the project. “ANZAC Park will provide a great expanse of commemorative space where we, the veterans of Bundaberg, on ANZAC Day and Remembrance Day in particular, will stand together to mourn the loss of friends and celebrate our own Service, the luck associated with returning to our families and the friends we brought home with us,” Mr Crowden said.

When aging infrastructure is at the end of its useful life and can no longer be repaired, renovated or updated to an acceptable standard to continue to meet the needs and expectations of the community it has to be replaced, and this is what has been occurring with the ANZAC Park redevelopment and the establishment of the New Bundaberg Aquatic Centre, which are both well and truly underway and progressing well.
